Single Family Living (SFL) was founded in the year 2003 in Michigan by a single parent, Jeri Hunley (custodial parent). Jeri Hunley was faced with isolation and preconceived stereotypes from society due to her marital status. As a single parent Jeri Hunley was struggling commuting to college, maintaining high grade point average, juggling two jobs or more, paying high daycare bills, paying bills (health insurance, car note, etc.) living on ONE income for several years. As a concerned single parent for others like her in the similar situation, Jeri Hunley dreamed one day in making a positive difference and to create an outreach non-profit organization in the Tri-County Michigan area. Single Family Living is non-profit that helps single parents achieve their goals and strengthen family values, offer an environment of peer self-confidence, support group, family activities, and provide single-parents with the tools for personal growth enhancement. In 2013, Single Family Living (SFL) became a dream come true Jeri Hunley with becoming a Non-Profit Organization. Single Family Living is that Non-Profit Organization that understands the trials & tribulations; the temporary set-backs, overcoming-the-odds, delays, sacrifice, the enjoyments, and the accomplishments from being a single-parent.
Single Family Living mission is to provide positive guidance and outreach to single families in the areas of financial budgeting, relationships, family care, counseling, life skills, stress management and economic-development. Our future goal is to expand our assistance beyond the Detroit Tri-County area to the entire state of Michigan. Currently, we are not able to do this due to lack of resources and volunteers. Like, many non-profit organizations majority of the money is through donations provided by our supporters. Supporters and members are the foundation of our organization. We appreciate all the support, whether big or small, you are willing to provide.
